Batanes stands in proud, secluded splendor in the northern part of the Philippines where the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the China Sea converge.

The isles of Batanes are nestled between Taiwan and the Babuyan islands of Cagayan province off Luzon. The main islands of Batanes include Batan (the most densely-populated and where the provincial capital Basco is located), Itbayat, and Sabtang.

Nature has been both an enemy and friend for Batanes. The seasonal monsoons and tropical storms may sometimes inflict damage. Yet because of the resultant "secrecy", the picturesque yet delicate ecosystem of the islands has been generally maintained. Certain scenic spots in Batanes are under consideration or pending potential recognition as another UNESCO World Heritage site in the Philippines. With its virgin natural landscapes and its people and culture, a tour to the islands of Batanes will produce memories that are more often than not to be recalled with fondness.
